Dongguan is a district-free city in the Chinese province of Guangdong. The city is part of the fast-growing Pearl River Delta metropolitan region.

Dongguan is located east of the Pearl River at its mouth into the China Sea between Guangzhou and Shenzhen. To the east and northeast, it borders the district-free city of Huizhou. In order to become independent of the strong water fluctuations of the unregulated Pearl River, a parallel shipping canal was built, which also connects Dongguan with the sea.

The climate is subtropical; the average January temperature is 13.4 °C, the average July temperature is 28.4 °C. Precipitation is 1,800 mm per year.
