Delhi is the capital of India and a sprawling metropolitan region in the north of the country. Old Delhi, a 17th-century neighborhood, is home to the imposing Mughal-era Red Fort, one of India’s landmarks, and the sprawling Jama Masijd Mosque (also known as the Friday Mosque), which seats 25,000 people in its courtyard. Nearby is Chandni Chowk, a lively bazaar with snack bars, sweet shops and spice stalls.
The capital territory of Delhi had a population of around 16.8 million in the 2011 census and is one of the world’s megacities.
