The region consists of the four prefectures of Tokyo, Kanagawa, Saitama, and Chiba, but has recently expanded into Ibaraki Prefecture.
With more than 30 million inhabitants (as of the end of 2021), Jabodetabek (Jakarta metropolitan area) is one of the largest metropolitan regions in the world. The region is experiencing high population growth, mainly due to an influx from the country’s rural regions.
